Garbo
Garbo is a photographic essay about anorexia, beauty, and the pressures women confront in having to stay attractively slim. Neither a documentary nor a critical attempt, it is an aesthetic and graceful perspective on the gestures, expressions, and perceptions of the subject. While anorexia is a global phenomenon that affects millions of people, my intention was to emphasise the cultural, symbolic and narrative factors, the psychological and behavioural moods, in a warm, personal, and intimate – almost romantic portrait.
