Equus
The Equus series was inspired by Fernando Arrabal’s experimental theatre, the training sessions of dancers who live to interpret and embody choreographies, as well as the elegancy and force of equitation sessions. The photographs taken of a small and fragile woman visually present her bodily movements and distortions by analogy with those of a noble, elegant and powerful animal. The uncanny contours are shaped by the dialogical relations between light and shade, the movements of the dancer in response to my requests, and her curious observation and feelings towards my sight glimpses. As I follow her with the camera, she follows me and the camera in dynamic gestures full of delicacy and force. There is no intentional dialogue of/or words, only the tension and a sense of accomplishment in parallel to our common admiration.
