The photographs were taken in January 2012 at St. Paul’s Cathedral, during Occupy London. Part of the international Occupy movement, this was an action aiming for social justice, real democracy, and the opportunity to create alternatives to an increasingly undemocratic system. My project was intended as both an activist intervention and a social sculpture manifesto. I made a crown stamp on which I wrote “we are all queens and kings of one same common wealth.” I approached people gathered in the camp set up near St. Paul’s and stamp a golden crown on their wrists. They would ask why – and I always replied: because “we are all queens and kings of one same common wealth.”
